Peer assesment of flat plan -Flat plan feedback

In order to improve my flat plan ideas I studied the level 4 criteria and then got into small groups to present out flat plans and discuss them. When presenting mine there was a few things i already knew i wanted to change and add into my magazine. In addition to my own thoughts i asked other members of the group if they agreed and there thoughts on the matter. My original thought was to have a medium close up image instead of a full length shot which my previous flat plan included. My peers also agreed and we concluded it would take up more space on the cover and leave less white space which would improve the general appearance. To ensure it is obvious which is my main sell line i need to have a variety of font sizes, which although i already had, my main one could be larger. I am going to make sure the size of the different sell lines are different sizes in order of importance. I am also going to include another feature on my front cover possibly in a circle or a highlighted box to make it stand out to the rest, however, this does not have to be overly large. Next to my bar code i have the date and issue number which i am also going to add a price too.On the contents page i am going top include a subscription at the bottom and therefore maybe adjust the layout slightly to move the HMV promotion to the top of the page which will get rid of the white space and then the subscription can go to the bottom. On the listed bit of the contents i am going to include sub headings to make it easy for the audience to allocate the page they want. Down the side of the contents i will add in a band index including all the bands and artists who will be in this issue of the magazine.
The feedback also provided me with positive features of my magazine which are essential to keep. I will defiantly be keeping the colours and house style of the magazine which continue throughout the magazine-shades of black and white, and red being the main colour to make things stand out and draw in attention. The font of my mast head is going to stay the same and at approximate the same size, the positioning will not change either, it will remain central at the top of the page. My front cover includes all the main features including mast head, skyline, main article, main image, sell lines, bar codes and dates etc. The material used is all appropriate to the audience and age however the model positioning will be changing to create more of a music theme. The feedback told me my layouts where all very good, particularly on my contents page, everything is clearly set out and also includes a variety of different images and camera shots to give me the opportunity to develop my camera work skills. All my images link well with the text and are appropriate to the genre and audience i am aiming the magazine at.
This feedback reassured me about my good ideas but has also helped me develop ideas on the weaker parts which i can now improve. I found it a good exercise as i can now make the appropriate changes to my magazine from ideas of my own i had, ideas which peers have given me and ideas to improve things i had done.

Flat plans and evaluations

For my mast head I have decided to use block, bold, font so it stands out and grabs the readers attention and this is helped by the fact it is central at the top of the page.I have used white text to stand out against the black background of the text which again stands out in comparison to the white background of the full page.

I have used a skyline at the top of the page, it is a red banner i with black text, continuing the basic black and white scheme and adding the main colour red. After research I found this is a good technique to use in to producing recognisable continuity throughout a popular magazine of this genre, therefore i will imitate this style. The sky line lexis will be short and snappy to make it fast for the reader. The skyline is an achievement of the magazine providing to the audience how good it is.

my main image on my flat plans shows a full length shot however after doing more additional research i have decided i want to do a medium close up. The eye line will either be direct to draw the reader in or the image will be taken from an angle from a side ways view to make it look slightly more private and intrigue the audience. The eye line will be in the upper third making the model have dominance and power.  I am going to use a female model making it attractive to males and females, by ensuring i have an attractive model on the front of the cover it will appeal to more people making them want to but the magazine.I will concentrate on the eye make up as because it will be a medium close up they will be very noticeable especially  due to the fact i want the models eyes to connect with the reader. Her lips will also be a main focus of the image adding to the sexual appeal by using red lip stick. This will be complemented by some form of red in her outfit, if her hand is in the shot i will also use red nail varnish. the costume and makeup colours will add to the house style them which will continuously run through out. My sell lines are going to appear round the main image on the edges of the page, they will be in red and black continuing the colour theme, the sizes will also be different due to importance and relevance of the information, for example the figures that appear on the cover- e.g: top '10' will be larger cause after doing research i realised numbers are used as a shocking important attention grabbing feature. Next to the mast head there will be a bar code, date and issue number placed neatly in line next to it to maintain the professional look.

I have kept the background of my magazine plain the same as my front cover, I have also carried through the same colour scheme of red black and white. After research proved at the top of most contents pages they have the word 'contents' i have continued this theme with the word contents been placed at the top of the page in the same font as my masthead on the front cover. I have separated the the contents of my magazine having all the sell lines front the front cover placed around the contents page as images with tag lines under. This is because it is likely it has been these sell lines which has interested the reader to read the magazine in the first place as it is those stories they are intrigued by. Then at the side of the page i will include the rest of the articles, despite not having this is my flat plan one change i have already decided i want to change is i want the rest of the articles to still be sub headed making it easier for the readers to find what they want; page numbers will also be along side the article titles on the contents. The page numbers will red  or black depending on the text they are next to however i will decide on the colour to make sure they standout to make it easier for the reader. There will be three images placed down the right hand side of my magazine they will be framed and tilted to make them more eye catching. I will also be adding other extra features to my contents including an index of bands and artists who will be featuring in the magazine and a subscription to help fill in some of the blank space.
e have made a column on the left hand side of my magazine. In the centre of the page at the magazine there will be an offer promoting HMV this will be large and iwll be the black logo with the pink text on it which is commonly recogniable to the type of audience the magazine is aimed at.

This is a flat plan for my double page spread, here is a main image of my artist large in the center on the on the left page the image will be feminine to match the target audience of my magazine.  It will aslo include a caption under neath the image like wise will all the other images on teh double page spread. The title of my magazine will be in large letters and the colours red however this time in a different font to tthe masthead an content of  is the magazine : despiet not shwoing this on my flat plan i will be changing the texts to something which appears slightly softer. My article will be a question an answer session to make the magazine professional and so the reader knows what the artist is talking about. The colours of the font will be black with read quotes making them stand out, the black text will be a clear read against the white background of the page. I will keep the same font  of all the articles throughout my magazine to keep it simple and less confussining for the reader. The quotes will be used to capture the reader attention as they will eb short and shocking or be only part of a sentense whcih infer but doesnt make entier sense departed from the sentence-this will encourage the reader to want to read the article and see what the full article is about. On the right page there will be several smaller collums breaking up the article making it seem an easier read. It will be broken up by smaller images and quotes from the article.

Primary audience research

All of the primary target audience research which i have done will help me ensure my magazine meets the interests and demands of the target audience it is aimed at. The magazine will include details, dates, promotions, updates and purchasing offers of things like CDs, shop voutchers, gig and festival tickets; soem of this will juts be detailed information and updates where to get things from and what teh newest info, however, the magazine will do promotion, competions and give aways to encourage reader to buy the magazine as they have a chnace of winning things. This may alos attract a wider audience as there could be some people who do not read the magazine yet they might want to be in with a change of the competion etc , therefore they might buy it for that reason. All of the promotions etc will relate to the artists. As the intrests of the target audience are also fashion/style, alongside music, I will include fashionable music icons and website of where the reader might finder similar products as they are likely to want to look like them, also fashion pages and arstics outfits etc will take part in the magaizne-eg rhianna pictured in a certain top, then showing the top in a highstreet shop such as topshop.
It is important I ensure my magazine doesnt just include great information but alos looks great. I have to make sure my audience are attracted to my magazine by looking at the front cover as this is the first thing that will draw the readers attention. As the target audience is in to social networking sites i think it'd be a good idea to embedded music stories related to social networking sites as they will find this off intrest, also maybe be able to suscribe for the magazine cheaper than normal if subscribed on  sites such as Facebook and twitter.

The the main image will be one of the most important features to attract the audience, the fact the audience is mixed  it will took look attractive to both genders, however under the assumption this magazine would have a continutes issues the images would change on every cover and the general type of images would appeal to both genders. On the cover which i will be producting i will be using a female. I think a female will appeal to males on a sexual level if i include the right type of shot, and will appeal to females on a aspirational level: both of these factors should appeal to the audience encouraging them to purchase the magaizne. My main aim will be to satisfiy both genders, the target age will be easier to meet the demands of as the age it is aimed at tend to all have the same intrests. The gender split will also be exemplified with the colours and articles I include in the magazine, I will aim to try and satisfy both using colours and articles which appeal to both genders.
The housestyle and colour theme will run through the magazine, contents and double page spread. I will used a minor amount of simple colours, most likely to be neutral colours: shadees of black and white, then use one or possibly two mian bright colours to capture attention. The bright colours will contast against the black and stand out more. The selected colour will have to appeal to male and female therefore i will not use a colour associated with either gender for example, pink which is linked with females.

I want the audience of my magazine to be a mixture of male and female as the bands and artists i want to include already have a huge fan base of mixed gender. In my magazine along side the music updates there will be a lot of stories about the artists personal lives: present and past and despite the fact it could interest male and female i think this section of the magazine will be more popular with females. I think this is because it will be the females who are more interested in the artists back grounds and finding out about their secrets, past and upbringing.
The age of my target audience is mainly between 15 and 25. The reason i have aimed my magazine at this age group is because i believe this is an important age to be linked with music as it plays an important part in most peoples lives around these times.

Primary audience research

As part of my primary audience research i asked several questions to a variety of people, some of which have videoed there responses.
The questions i asked are the following:
1.who do you think the target audience is and why?
2.what genre is the music magazine and why?
3.what artists/bands would fit well into this product?
4.do you think the photo captures enough attention, shoould the text along side the photo improve in anyway?
5.what good magazine features would fit well into this genre.
6.how could the contents pages and double page spread be improved?
7.what is the first thing that your attention is drawn too?
8.what features of the cover do you particually like?
9.how could the DPS be improved (layout)?

Textual Analysis

Making this prezi allowed me to gather a lot of information about different magazine which i looked at. It has helped me get a better understanding of what all magazines included but also some of the individual things certain magazines contain. After analysis of the magazines i know what is necessary to include on my magazine but also what might be key features to make it stand out from others. On the other hand i know what type of things to included when focusing on certain audiences
